Aprilia is about to launch a scooter in South Africa that can outsprint Ferraris and Porsches from the traffic lights.
A far cry from the humble two-wheelers that schlep multitudes of schoolgirls around the suburbs, the SRV 850 is the world’s most powerful scooter and wields a V-twin engine that delivers 56kW.
This is enough to out-dice 99 percent of cars over 400 metres, but it still has a scooter’s easy-to-operate convenience.
A CVT transmission means there aren’t any gears to change and it’s all about twist-and-go power at your right hand.
Under the folding seat (which is big enough to carry two people) is a large storage compartment for helmets and shopping bags.
The Aprilia SRV 850 should arrive here within the first quarter of next year at under R120 000. -Star Motoring
