A taxi guard from Hanover Park accused of the murder of a Gugulethu woman has been sent to prison after abandoning his bail application at the Athlone Magistrate's Court.

Nizaam Caesar, 33, made his first appearance on Thursday after being busted in Oribi Court on Monday night.

He is the fourth suspect and alleged member of the Hard Livings gang accused of being behind the horrific death of the woman who was strangled, set alight and dumped in a wheelie bin.

The horrific discovery was made on March 6 as commuters walking along Duinefontein Road saw the legs of the woman inside the bin as the rubbish was removed.

The bin was dumped in the nearby canal and police were called to the scene as a large crowd gathered trying to identify the deceased woman.

As police photographers arrived on the scene, the body was removed and this was when police discovered it was a woman.

She was later identified as a 29-year-old from Gugulethu.

On the same day, Sergeant Daryl van Noie retraced her movements and discovered that she was last seen alive at a property in Hurricane Street.

Police descended on the house, which is reportedly run as a drug den for the Hard Livings gang, and busted the owner Denver Paulse.

The determined detective also recovered the rope used to strangle the woman and it was later discovered that the Hard Livings gang suspected her of being a spy for the Fancy Boys gang and even set her on fire before dumping the bin in the canal.

Four days after the murder, Paulse appeared alongside Shaheem van Schalkwyk on murder charges, where they were informed that the State would be opposing their release on bail.

The duo returned to court where they were joined by Zubair Moses, 30, who was arrested after returning to Manenberg on March 15 after going on the run.

During his court appearance on Thursday, Caesar said he would not be bringing a bail application and the case was postponed to May 23 where he will appear alongside his co-accused.
