Cape Town - At last, in Thursday’s comments piece, a politician talking sense for a change.

Phil Craig, co-founder of the Cape Independence Advocacy Group, speaking about the problems of Eskom that, as we all know, are not only the government’s problem but definitely all of ours as well, says that the solution is to abandon state-owned monopolies and introduce capacity and competition to the market and get rid of cadre deployment, and to remove politicians away from any operational decision-making .

We elect politicians to run the country, and not to run companies. We, too, as a country must look at all potential energy sources, and perhaps sad to say, we should perhaps relook the very contentious option of fracking, as the gas we are all sitting on could be a bonanza for our country.

But that, as we all know, is contentious, and all environmentally sound ways of developing this natural resource must be looked at prior to any decisions being taken
