Cape Town - The reappointment of Cyril Ramaphosa as head of the ANC indicates that the party has become immune to corruption, inefficiency and unethical behaviour.

Heaven help us if the ANC receives more than 50% of the votes in the 2024 election, South Africa would be completely ruined by 2029.

The time has come for a strong, honest and capable opposition, with total intolerance for corruption, to oppose the ANC in the election.

The current leader of the opposition, John Steenhuisen, while he is 100% correct in what he says, comes across as if he is giving an academic lecture, which is not going to “rev up” the electorate.

Why do we have so many small political parties? Surely the time has come for some of them to bury their differences and their pride, and to combine into a single group that can challenge the ANC head-on.

Imagine how one party consisting of leaders such as Mmusi Maimane (Build One SA), Herman Mashaba (Action SA), Neil de Beer (United Independent Movement), Dr Pieter Groenewald (Freedom Front/Afriforum), Dr Imtiaz Sooliman (The Gift of the Givers), John Steenhuisen (DA) and all their followers could turn our country around and away from the looming abyss of a “failed state”.

The leaders could form a united leadership council for the common good, with possibly a rotating titular head.

It is later than we think and South Africa is in desperate and urgent need of leaders who recognise that the state is greater than the political group in power, and who will place the welfare of the country and its citizens before their own subjective thoughts and actions.

Quo vadis the beloved country?
