Maranello, Italy - Ferrari is going to build one extra LaFerrari, for a very special reason.
There were originally going to be only 499 examples produced of Ferrari's first hybrid supercar, but company CEO Sergio Marchionne announced on Wednesday that it would add a 500th LaFerrari to the production run.
This car will be auctioned to benefit the people affected by the earthquake that hit central Italy on 24 August.
The limited-edition LaFerrari combines a high-revving 6262cc V12 petrol engine with a 120kW electric motor for a total of 708kW and 900Nm, rear mid-mounted in a carbon-fibre monocoque bodyshell to give it a 0-100 launch time of less than three seconds and a top speed of more than 350km/h.
