Johannesburg - With just a month to go until the newly refurbished Kyalami race track opens its doors to the South Africa Bike Festival, organisers are ramping up efforts to ensure motorcycle lovers are treated to a fun-filled event.
The three-day biking extravaganza will take place at the Midrand circuit from Friday 27 May to Sunday 29 May, and each of the days will be chock-full of entertainment including live music, stunt shows, custom-bike competitions and track-based test rides.
Event organisers have announced that International stunt and wheelie champion, Julien “RazorBack” Welsch will be on hand to thrill visitors with a freestyle demonstration on his Triumph Street Triple R, while local brothers Brent “One Wheel” and Bruce “One Hip Wonder” le Riche will put on a trials stunt show in the dedicated Monster Energy activation zone.
Twelve of South Africa’s top manufacturers are making their latest machines available to test ride on the new circuit, from cruisers to cutting-edge sports bikes and more. An allocation of rides are being sold in advance via the festival website using a unique password which is automatically generated when showgoers buy their tickets.
Riders of all skill levels, including beginners, can also sign up for lessons from the Michelin Superbike School.
Classic Bikes
Another great addition is the first ever Pride of Ownership Classic Motorcycle Viewing Deck. All those with machines dating from 1990 or earlier can nominate their classic bike to be one of 30 exclusively selected - with the assistance of the Classic Motorcycle Club of South Africa - for the special display on the new deck on the second level of the Kyalami pit puilding.
The pit roof terrace will cater to female showgoers with a Ladies Indulgence area featuring nail art, mini manicures and, of course, cocktails. There is also another beginner-rider opportunity to experience riding in a safe and controlled environment with the first ever Scooters & Commuters area where anybody over the age of 16 can try out a Honda, Suzuki or Sym scooter with the team from SpeedQueen Racing Academy.
Musical acts will include Kahn Morbee from the Parlotones, Gangs of Ballet, Majozi and many more.
Tickets for The South Africa Bike Festival, powered by Discovery Channel, are available from the Bike Festival website and are priced at R190 per person, R600 for a family (two adults and two teens), and R950 a person for the VIP Pit Roof Village which gives visitors a 360-degree view of the festival along with a buffet lunch and drinks. Children under 12 enter the festival for free.
