Durban – The KwaZulu-Natal Human Settlements and Public Works Department held an Imbizo with the people of Amahlongwa, outside uMkhomazi, ward 99 eThekwini Municipality to discuss the service delivery challenges facing the community on Monday.

During his interactions with the community, MEC Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba acknowledged that the KZN government is aware of the housing backlog, and lack of title deeds to the community over and above other service delivery challenges they face.

Human Settlements and Public Works spokesperson Mlungisi Khumalo said government is on a fact- finding mission around issues of service delivery,

Khumalo continued and added that even though there are government subsidy houses built for the community already, there is still a shortage of RDP houses, and those who already have them, are in desperate need of their title deeds.

“There are other government projects that have stalled- therefore as the government which cares for the people, our visit was centred around ensuring the provision and guarantees of service delivery. Other challenges facing the community are safety and security, provision of proper road infrastructure, and other such services,” Khumalo said.

Mahlaba promised the community that his department is going to conduct more visits to the community, to ensure that the ongoing government programmes are done and finished on time – to the satisfaction of the community members.
