DURBAN - ISIPINGO Rail Community Police Sub Forum deputy chairperson and Stallion Towlines owner Ugi Naicker will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
Naicker died at the Ahmed AL-Kadi Private Hospital on Saturday after he succumbed to Covid-19.
He is survived by his wife, Aneshree, and three children.
Isipingo Community Police Forum chairperson Aiden David described Naicker as a vibrant leader and dedicated family man.
“I have known him for over 40 years. We worked together for a very long time. He juggled between his family and the community. He protected many businesses during the unrest.
“He loved his staff and cared for people. He was such a gentleman. We can only cherish the memories and thank him for the safety nets that he put in place for all of us,” said David.
“He was not only a wonderful father but a very good husband. They built a business from nothing to an empire. The whole family is welcoming and helpful. He will be solely missed in our community.
“He recovered many hijacked vehicles and assisted the SAPS in many ways. On behalf of the Isipingo Police Forum and the eThekwini outer south cluster we wish the family strength,” said David.
Meanwhile tributes have been pouring in for Naicker on social media.
Mervyn Govender said on Facebook: “Our lives are always in God’s hands. Losing a great friend Ugi Naicker has broken the hearts of so many people. He was always ready to go the extra mile to help people. May God the Almighty be with the family during this very sad time and grant them strength. My dear friend you will be missed by many, far and wide.”
Bob Pillay said: “Mafia of Isipingo and the people’s champion, this man was for the people of our community.”
