Durban — Bystanders have reported that a lone suspect driving a Polo sedan was behind the shooting of a man on Musgrave Road earlier this week.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal police, stated that police in Berea have opened a case of attempted murder after a 29-year-old man was allegedly shot while sitting in his vehicle on Musgrave Road on Tuesday, December 3.
“The victim was taken to hospital for medical attention,” Netshiunda said.
According to a dRK Tactical incident report, at approximately 2.30pm on Tuesday, dRK Tactical received a call regarding a shooting on Musgrave Road within the Morningside area in Durban.
Immediately, multiple response and operations teams, including dRK EMS, were dispatched to the location.
“Responders arrived within minutes and found the victim lying on the road with gunshot wounds,” said dRK Tactical director Mahmood Simjee.
“dRK EMS took over and the victim was later transported to a nearby facility for further treatment while response units and other security companies cordoned off the scene until SAPS arrived.”
Simjee said bystanders said the suspect was a man driving a white Polo sedan.
Simjee said the motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage and the crime scene was handed over to Berea police for processing and investigation.
Police closed off the road at the intersection of Musgrave and Springfield roads. Motorists had to find alternative routes.
Meanwhile, during a media briefing last week, KZN police commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said that from August 1 to November 22, provincial police arrested 42 079 suspects for various crimes.
Of that number, 926 suspects were arrested for murder, 986 were arrested for attempted murder and 8 139 suspects were arrested for assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm.
Mkhwanazi said in the same period police recovered 1 525 firearms and 18 289 rounds of ammunition of different calibre of firearms.
