Welcome to “Independent Media Lifestyle’s” new feature, “Hang 10”.

Each week, we will feature an extraordinary Mzansi personality who is excelling in their line of work. This week, we got to know more about comedian, entrepreneur and social media sensation, Bash with Tash (real name Natashia Portrag).

How long have you been in the entertainment industry and what motivated you?

I have been in the industry for seven years now and I think my motivation is to be a voice for women who are often silenced.

What are some of the biggest pros and cons of being a celebrity?

The pros would be the love and kindness of our people, the messages saying that we saved a life and we changed a life. And the cons are that social media has a lot of love but also some hate. Alongside the great people there are those that are determined to ruin you.

Which of your projects are you most proud of and why?

I'm most proud of all my philanthropy work. Being able to make a difference in people's lives while doing what you love is a win for me.

What are the biggest creative risks you've taken and did it work out for you?

I have hosted shows for women only in some of the biggest seats and the risk and expenses were high but through prayer, hard work and determination and the support of our ladies it was a success. There were also other shows that didn't sell and we had to pay for venues and services and we live and learn and try again.

What inspires you to wake up every day and continue in your field of work?

new inspiration is my 7-month-old baby boy. My ongoing inspiration is my husband, my parents and siblings. This goes alongside a fan base that always has the kindest things to say. You know every day you have a choice and every day we choose laughter even on our darkest days.

What is one misconception people often have about you?

That I ask businesses for freebies or that I have no issues and that my whole life is sponsored and that is so far from the truth. We are ever so grateful in life for the brands that give us work and I appreciate it so much. I think that people also have to understand it's an exchange of trade.

What is your favourite part about being born in Durban and what would you say to people about visiting?

Durban makes me so proud and it's most beautiful. I'm so proud to be Durban-born. People visiting all I can say is alongside the beauty of Durban all the friendly people makes it the warmest place. Spectacular food and amazing talent.

Aside from home, what are your favourite holiday destinations and why?

I am in love with Dubai, London and Phuket but having said all that, home is where the heart is.

Who is your favourite local designer and why?

I design my own dresses.

What are some of the projects that you are or will be working on in 2025?

We are working on new collaborations and new shows, a book and so much more.
