Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex and wife of Prince Harry, shared a personal health revelation in the first episode of her newly launched podcast.
During the episode of her new podcast, “Confessions of a Female Founder”, Markle sat down with Whitney Wolfe Herd, who is the founder of the Bumble dating app and a mother of two, to discuss their shared experiences with postpartum health struggles, which included postpartum preeclampsia.
“We both went through something very similar, even though we didn’t know each other at the time,” Markle said. “We both had postpartum preeclampsia. It’s so rare and so scary.”
Postpartum preeclampsia is a rare and serious condition which is marked by high blood pressure and elevated protein levels in the urine. This can occur shortly after childbirth.
“You're trying to juggle everything,” Markle continued.
“And the world has no idea what’s happening behind the scenes. You’re still trying to show up, mostly for your kids, but it’s terrifying when you're facing serious medical scares like that.”
The Duchess and Prince Harry are parents to two children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
Markle’s new podcast is part of her growing personal brand, which focuses on lifestyle and inspirational content.
In March, she also premiered a new cooking show on Netflix.
She even launched a lifestyle product line under the name “As Ever”, which focuses on home goods, cookbooks, and yoga accessories.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Harry have settled in California and remain largely distanced from the royal family.
