“Virgin River” fans are in for a treat as the recent trailer for season six promises plenty of romance and drama.

The Netflix series, which is set to premiere on December 19, will see much of the original cast reprise their roles.

This includes fan favourites such as Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge), Jack (Martin Henderson), Preacher (Colin Lawrence), Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth) and Kaia (Kandyse McClure).

Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Mark Ghanimé, Kai and Bradbury will also be part of latest instalment.

And if the trailer is anything to go by, viewers are in for a treat as it appears that Mel and Jack finally make it down the aisle.

"I feel like the luckiest girl in the world, who is trusting in forever again," Mel said in the voice over.

The trailer is packed with drama, the scenic location fans have come to know and love and plenty of romantic scenes between Mel and Jack, including them under the stars, dancing together in a barn, sitting in a bubble bath together and a steamy shower shot.

There are also classic pre-wedding rituals such as bachelor and bachelorette parties and a rehearsal dinner.

"I've spent so many years wishing things hadn't happened the way they have," Mel added in the trailer. "But the end of one love story can be the beginning of another."

The trailer ends with Jack looking at Mel in her full wedding gown and saying: "Wow."

Meanwhile, the show’s logline reads: “Against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s romantic spring wedding season, this sixth instalment promises fresh twists and turns, escalating love triangles, delightful wedding drama, as well as uncovered secrets from Mel’s father’s past which will transport us to the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 1970s.”

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith also recently told the streaming platform that he "knew" this season needed to be the wedding season. "It was time."

"It felt like a great event to build around, so everybody had as much forethought and time to plan as possible … It felt very Virgin River in its production, the ambition of it, and that we’re a small group of people that care about something so much: the fans."

"So we just busted our humps to get it done."

He also teased that "babies and wedding bells are never off the table on ‘Virgin River’."

And while Mel and Jack will continue to be central characters, season 6 "promises fresh twists and turns, escalating love triangles, delightful wedding drama, as well as uncovered secrets from Mel’s father’s past which will transport us to the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 1970s".
