If you had fun turning yourself into a Studio Ghibli character, then you’re going to love the #BarbieBoxChallenge, where nostalgia meets next-gen tech.

Have you ever imagined yourself as a Barbie doll or a collectible action figure? Now, your plastic-fantastic dreams are about to come true. Well, kind of.

Thanks to the power of AI, with a little help from ChatGPT, you can now transform a photo of yourself into a boxed Barbie-style doll, which even includes accessories, packaging, and all.

The trend is all about channeling that throwback "Barbiecore" aesthetic.

You can now get a slick, stylised image that looks like it belongs in a toy store.

There’s no single creator behind the trend, but it recently started going viral, especially on TikTok, where users are showing off their doll-box avatars using the hashtag #BarbieBoxChallenge.

Now, you can’t scroll through other social media platforms without seeing Barbie-like versions of your friends and family.

Want in on the fun? Here’s how to create your very own Barbie-box version of yourself

Hop onto ChatGPT: Either log in or sign up through the app or website.

Upload a photo: Use the "Add" button to upload a clear, high-resolution, full-body image of yourself. Make sure it’s a good-quality picture because that will determine how good your doll version will turn out.

Get creative with the prompt. Here’s an example: “Create a realistic action figure (Barbie doll) of the person in this photo. The doll should be full figure and displayed in its original clear plastic box packaging. At the top of the box is the name of the toy (insert name). In the packaging, next to the figure are the toy’s accessories including (add whatever accessories that suit you best)”

Let the app do its thing: It might take a moment, but soon you'll see your own boxed doll image appear.

If you’re not completely happy with the version that comes up, you can always go back and make a few tweaks.

Add prompts with more details. This could include prompts like the colour of the box, your doll’s tagline, or even the background design.

If you’re still not happy, then you can always try a different picture of yourself. Perhaps in a different outfit with better lighting.

So whether you’re going full glam, sporty spice, or superhero Barbie, there’s no wrong way to join the #BarbieBoxChallenge.
