London - Thousands of people are logging into TV streaming services like Netflix using their former partner’s details after relationships end, a study has found.
Five percent of users of Netflix, Amazon and Now TV are watching films, box sets and other shows this way while 42 percent overall access services through someone else’s account.
The findings by PR and marketing firm Edelman were revealed at the Royal Television Society’s Cambridge convention this week. Ed Williams, boss of Edelman UK, told the convention: "It’s not a surprise that 42 percent of people say they have a subscription where they are using someone else’s login."
He said he was also involved in the practice by allowing his son’s former nanny to watch Netflix on his account after she returned to her native Australia.
He stressed: "Questions are starting to be asked about value for money.
"More than six in ten people are becoming more price conscious and this is going to become more of an issue when Disney Plus, Apple TV, Britbox and others come online [as streaming competitors]."
