London - It seems the days when newlyweds would drive away from their reception to head off on their honeymoon are a thing of the past.
Today couples wait for an average of four months before they go on their first holiday as husband and wife, a poll has found.
Only a quarter of brides and grooms jet off in the days immediately after the ceremony, according to the survey of nearly 2 000 men and women who tied the knot last year.
Of the 76 percent who delayed their honeymoon, 37 percent said they needed longer to save up, while 23 percent wanted to stave off the post-wedding blues and have something to look forward to.
About 19 percent said they were too busy to go away and 12 percent said they couldn’t get the time off work.
