American rapper and YouTuber DDG has announced his break-up with singer and actor Halle Bailey, less than a year after the couple welcomed their baby boy, Halo, in December 2023.

DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr, shared the news on Instagram, telling fans that the decision to separate had been a difficult one, but the pair remain committed to co-parenting their son.

"Dear friends and supporters, after much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy, but we believe it's the best path forward for both of us," DDG wrote.

"Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other."

Bailey, who gained prominence as one half of the musical duo Chloe x Halle, has also made a name for herself in acting, most notably starring in Disney’s live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” in 2023.

The couple began dating publicly in 2022, and their relationship has been a subject of public interest ever since.

While the former couple have not shared specific reasons for their split, DDG emphasised their ongoing bond as co-parents.

"As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we've built and the beautiful moments we've shared."

The news quickly spread across social media, drawing a mix of reactions from fans. Some expressed disappointment, while others questioned the sincerity of the break-up.

One user, @Amariih1, highlighted the challenges of raising children outside of marriage, tweeting:

"This is why marriage before kids is so important, another broken home, tryna raise a Black infant. We gotta do better as a community."

Others, like @itsmeoveryou_, criticised the timing, speculating about DDG’s intentions.

"He knew that before the pregnancy. It's giving leech & wanted to be a part of all the success she has... I hate this for Halle."

Some fans, however, were more sceptical, with @Uzanethegoat suggesting it could be a "publicity stunt???."
