December is not just a month in South Africa, it’s a lifestyle. Everyone gets in a jovial mood and we shop until we drop.

It is part of our culture to buy new clothes in December, which we casually call “Christmas” clothes.

Each year has a theme. For example, in 2010, colour blocking was in the thing while in 2015 dominated with all white, which was known as the “Shuyama” era because of the song by DBN Nyts.

To upgrade your summer wardrobe this December, these are the items you must have.

Metallics

Metallics are back on trend so make sure you get them. You can get cargo pants, a handbag or even a two-buttoned shirt. This style is versatile because you can dress metallics up or down, depending on the occasion of the day.

For example, a metallic top can be paired with black pants, while a handbag works well with dark colours like black or green.

Wet looks

We’ve seen the wet looks on the Hollywood red carpet, with stars like Chloe Bailey and South Africa’s very own multi-award-winning singer, Tyla effortlessly rocking them.

Our local fashion influencers have also jumped on the wagon and Pumla Dineo is one of the few who slays the wet looks.

At the recent event with  Bellagio Jewellers, she wore a nude bodycon skirt and paired it with a matching corset, a look that exuded elegance and sophistication.

Bold handbags

Accessories are important for every look. However, there are people who don’t wear jewellery because of certain beliefs and other reasons, and if you are one of them, always compensate with a handbag.

Avoid carrying ordinary handbags like a tote or a clutch, go for unique designs like a heart-shaped handbag, or something with tassels and fringes for a bit of drama. And, the brighter the handbag, the better.

Skort

Summer is all about showing skin and this season, we are serving legs.

A Skort is the best thing to return to the fashion scene because it’s like you’re wearing a skirt with a short underneath, except that it is one piece.

Such is great because it keeps you away from wearing tights under the skirt. A skort is best won with oversized T-shirts that can be tucked at the back, paired with sneakers for a casual look or some strappy heels if you want to dress them up.

Originals sneakers

If you don’t own a pair of adidas Originals SL72 sneakers get one because they are very much in and can be worn with anything, including suits.

The SL72 revolutionized the world of running shoes. As sport and culture merged, this footwear style became an enduring symbol of style and timeless versatility, influencing both performance and streetwear culture.

The SL72 remains as iconic as ever, with its sleek, minimalist design worn by originals everywhere.

Fashion icons like Thebe Magugu have mastered the art of styling the Originals and you can always turn to them for some inspiration.

Parachute pants/skirts

Remember when the mommy jeans were trending? Well, they have taken a back seat in substitute for parachute pants. What makes parachute pants a winner is that they are adjustable so you can wear them in several different ways, including paring them with a cropped tank top for a casual look. And if you are not big on pants, worry not because we also have parachute skirts that can be styled the same way as the pants.

Ruffled socks

Give secret socks a break and grant ruffled socks a chance. These socks make great accessories and add more flair to an outfit.

For a more sophisticated look, get the net ones in various colours, including black, white and red.
