Durban – The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture says applications received for Grant-in-Aid funding for the arts, culture and heritage sector are being processed.

The department said in a statement on Friday that in May and October 2022, it had invited applications from non-profit and non-governmental organisations, co-operatives and private companies to apply for financial assistance from the department.

It said that almost 1000 applications were received and the applications that met the required criteria were being processed by the grant-funding committee.

“Of these requests, it is, however, worth noting that about 700 applications were not fully compliant with the requirements, which left the department with close to 300 applications to consider.”

It said that letters have been sent to inform all the unsuccessful applicants about the outcome of the process.

The department added that the processing of the compliant applications was ongoing and qualifying applicants would receive formal letters informing them of successful applications from this month to January 2023 for those whose programmes are due in December and January.

The rest will be informed of the outcome early next year, it said.

The department also said it intended calling all those who could not be considered – owing to not meeting the criteria – for workshops that will capacitate them for future opportunities within the department or other related institutions and stakeholders.
