Durban - eThekwini Municipality mayor Cyril Xaba says Durban is ready to deliver a safe and memorable festive season.

Xaba, accompanied by officials, did a walkabout on the Durban beachfront on Monday and also visited the uShaka Marine World to interact with visitors and to assess the City’s readiness to welcome more tourists who will be arriving in the next few days.

Mayor Xaba said he was satisfied with the level of cleanliness and the high visibility of the police.

“This is a season of relaxation and enjoyment, and I am happy that our visitors are enjoying themselves in our warm beaches and swimming pools. We are saying that people must come to Durban in large numbers to explore the wide range of tourism products on offer. We are confident that we will attract over 1.3 million visitors during this festive season.”

Xaba added that he was pleased to see large crowds peacefully enjoying themselves along the golden mile.

“Visitors started arriving in the early hours which confirms that this is going to be a bumper holiday season. We have no doubt that visitors will take home good memories about Durban as most tourists I interacted with were showering our law enforcement officers with praises for ensuring their safety. They have also commended our hospitality venues and the people of eThekwini for warmly receiving them in the city.”
