Paramedics discovered the bodies of twin foetuses that were dumped in a toilet at a private residence on Monty Naicker Road in the South Beach area of the Durban CBD on Wednesday.
The incident comes after another incident on Tuesday where a foetus was found dumped in a plastic bag on the side of Montpelier Road in Morningside near the Durban CBD. The foetus was declared dead at the scene.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said on Wednesday they were called out for the discovery of a dumped foetus.
Jamieson said paramedics arrived on scene together with Metro Police Search and Rescue as well as ER24, and they were shown to where a foetus had been dumped in a toilet at a private residence.
“Paramedics assessed and found that it was actually two foetuses, believed to be twins, and unfortunately, there was nothing more that could be done for them, and they were declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.
He said the South African Police Service cordoned off the area as it was an active crime scene.
“SAPS and Metro Police will be conducting a thorough investigation to find the mother of these dumped foetuses.”
ALS Paramedics appealed to members of the public to make use of the necessary authorities to hand over an infant instead of dumping them.
He said there had been a recent increase in these incidents in the Durban area and this is the second incident ALS Paramedics has attended this week.
“Please approach clinics or government facilities for assistance,” urged Jamieson.
