He visited, he saw, he conquered - that's how fans will remember rounds five and six of the 2013 South African Motorcycle championship at Port Elizabeth's Aldo Scribante circuit on 6 April.

Former SA champion Sheridan Morais, now competing in World Supersport, was home for a flying visit, which became something of a busman's holiday when he stood in for Emtek Yamaha's injured Dean Vos in Saturday's 600 Supersport races.

Morais immediately laid down his marker by putting the Yamaha R6 on pole, with Lance Isaacs on the 'official' Kawasaki and MV Agusta riders Cam Petersen and Brent Harran making up the rest of the front row.

Isaacs and Morais led the field throughout the first race, never more than a second apart; two laps from the end Morais coolly outbraked the Capetonian at the end of the pit straight, took the lead and hung on to win, just two-tenths of a second ahead of Isaacs.

Petersen and Harran finished third and fourth respectively, ahead of Kawasaki privateers Nicholas Kershaw and Gareth Davidson.

RACE 2

Morais fluffed the start of the second race, getting away fifth as Isaacs led from Harran, Petersen and Suzuki rider Darryn Binder.

Morais fought back, passing first Binder and then Petersen but, just as he took over third, Isaacs and Harran collided in the pit corner, skittling Isaacs and forcing Harran to run wide.

That left Morais to cruise to his second win of the day, leading home Petersen, Binder, Kershaw, Harran and Kawasaki rider Brandon Goode.

SUPERBIKES

Kawasaki privateer Clint Seller led the first opening Unlimited Superbike race from the start, hotly pursued by Nicholas Grobler on the 'official' ZX-10R, Ryan Ottens' works BMW, Dylan White (Emtek Yamaha) and Grober's team mate Stephen Steenkamp.

Way behind them Otten's team leaders, Chris Leeson, who managed to select neutral as the lights went out, started to blast his way through the 14-bike field on his works BMW.

Grobler challenged Seller for the lead several times, but then ran wide at the end of the pit straight and dropped back, gifting Seller an easy victory.

Leeson, meanwhile, had worked his way up to third, whereupon Ottens sportingly moved aside to give Leeson second place. Ottens came home third, ahead of Grobler, Steenkamp and White.

Seller dominated Race 2 from lights to flag, leading home Grobler, Leeson, Ottens, White and Capetonian BMW privateer Trevor Westman.

The next round of the SA Superbike series will be run at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria on Saturday 4 May.
