Johannesburg - A traffic officer and her mother were shot and killed at Ntwane village near Dennilton, Limpopo police said on Monday.

Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said a manhunt has been launched for the traffic officer's boyfriend.

''It is alleged that the suspect confronted the official and her mother on Sunday night, shot them to death and then fled the scene. Police arrived and found the 26-year-old officer, attached to Groblersdal Traffic Station, and her 62-year-old mother lying in the house with multiple gunshot wounds,'' said Ngoepe.

The wanted boyfriend fled the scene in a Toyota hatchback, later found abandoned near a petrol station.

''Her official pistol and two magazines are missing. The motive for the killings is not known at this stage, but domestic violence is not be ruled out.''
