Police in Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, are asking community members who may have lost a family member to help identify a man who was struck by a taxi in Komatipoort on Monday.

The accident occurred around 9 p.m., according to Mpumalanga provincial police spokesperson Captain Magonseni Nkosi.

“A taxi driver travelling from Naas to Komatipoort reported that he ran over a man at the N4 road junction. The victim was taken to Tonga Hospital for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries,” Nkosi said.

The unidentified man was wearing a gold Kaizer Chiefs sports T-shirt and denim jeans. His age is estimated to be between 30 and 35 years, and he was not carrying any identification.

“Police are requesting community members who may have lost a family member or friend to please contact Sergeant Vincent Mashaba on 082-449-0272 or Komatipoort SAPS on 013-793-7321,” said Nkosi.

“Alternatively, community members may call Crime Stop at 08600-10111 or send information via the My SAPS App.”

Last month, IOL reported that four people had been killed in a side-swipe collision between a bakkie and a sedan on the N4 toll road in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

The crash happened after midnight, near the Hendrina turn-off, according to Moeti Mmusi, Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison.

“Three of the deceased were occupants in the light delivery vehicle, and this includes the driver. The fourth victim was a passenger in the sedan. The victims included an infant,” said Mmusi.

Two people were critically injured, and the driver of the sedan sustained serious injuries.

“The injured were rushed to the nearby Middelburg Hospital for further medical attention,” said Mmusi.

Earlier indications are that the light delivery vehicle, a Toyota Hilux double cab - after colliding with the sedan, overturned several times on the side of the road.

Both vehicles were reportedly travelling in the same direction.
