Johannesburg - If the State of the Nation Address goes ahead, ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver it, secretary general Ace Magashule said on Tuesday.

The African National Congress (ANC) on Tuesday announced it had communicated a decision to recall President Jacob Zuma as the country's head of state, but he has not yet responded.

"We went with DSG (deputy secretary general Jessie Duarte) today to meet with the president and we communicated the decision of the national executive committee...obviously we giving him time and space to respond," Magashule told a media briefing at Luthuli House.

"We haven't given him [Zuma] any deadline to respond."

The ANC said the ball was now in Zuma's court.

"I don't know what will happen but let's leave it to President Jacob Zuma."

Magashule also pointed out that Zuma had not been found guilty by any court of law.

''We are still treating Comrade Zuma as the president of the country. He has not been found guilty in a court of law...we did not take the decision because we think he did something wrong,'' Magashule told reporters.

"We decided as an organisation that we want Ramaphosa to become the president."

A staunch Zuma supporter, Magashule was at pains trying to explain to journalists why his long-time ally was shown the door by the governing party.
