RUSTENBURG - A raging fire destroyed several shops in the Mahikeng central business district (CBD) on Monday, police said on Monday.
The fire at a shopping complex on Station Road reportedly started at one shop around 5am and soon spread to other shops.
A cloud of black smoke coming from the complex greeted shoppers and workers.
Police fired rubber bullets to disperse the crowd who attempted to loot burning shops.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
