Durban – A 16-year-old was killed by an intruder in his home in Clayfield in the Phoenix area, north of Durban, on Tuesday night.

A 10-year-old and a 65-year-old woman were also shot in the leg and abdomen respectively.

Police sources allege that the shooting was done by an intruder who had been chasing another 16-year-old who lives in the same house after trying to rob him and five friends.

That 16-year-old who was initially chased was not harmed.

It is alleged that he was on the street with five friends in the area when they were accosted by two armed men who demanded cash and cellphones.

The six boys decided to try to run away, with five going one way and the other running in an opposite direction on his own.

One suspect followed the boy into his home where the suspect allegedly shot the woman and a boy who were in the lounge.

He then went to the room where 16-year-old was hiding and fired two shots through the door, killing him.

The SAPS said a case of attempted murder and murder were opened. No arrests have yet been made.

Both victims who survived were taken to Mahatma Gandhi hospital. The 10-year-old was discharged and the woman was subsequently transferred to Addington Hospital.

The suspect did not take anything from the house, sources said.
