Cabinet approves board for Denel

PARLIAMENT - Cabinet approved the appointment of a 14-member board for South Africa's state-owned arms manufacturer, Denel, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan announced on Thursday.

Former Airports Company of South Africa chief executive Monhla Hlahla, who was appointed to head the interim Denel board last month, has been confirmed as chairman.

The other board members are Nonzukiso Siyotula, Mandla Mnisi, Nhlanhla Kunene, Tshilidzi Marwala, retired lieutenant-general Temba Matanzima, businesswoman Gloria Serobe, Talib Sadik, Sue Rabkin, Sibusiso Sibisi, Thamsanqa Magazi, Hannelie Nel, General Siphiwe Nyanda and Kabelo Lehloenya.

Gordhan said the new board would have to ensure a "strong and ethical management team" is put in place following the resignation of the former chief executive Zwelakhe Ntshepe last week.
