Residents in Soshanguve Block L, who were forced to go without water in the past few days, have been assured that the City of Tshwane was working hard to resolve the problem.

The reservoir supplying the area with water was said to be empty last Friday due to water pressure issues experienced on the side of Rand Water.

Mayor Nasiphi Moya said Tshwane is actively working to resolve the issues by collaborating with the water utility to restore water to all affected residents.

According to her, work was done to check for leaks around the reservoir, adding that Rand Water was also checking for airlocks.

Recently, the water reservoir was replenished, but the water had mysteriously disappeared, forcing the City to conduct thorough checks to determine what went wrong and prevent it from happening again.

Moya announced that a comprehensive repair programme had been initiated to seal all water leaks in the vicinity of Block L.

“The second work is done by the Rand water team where they are checking for airlocks within the reservoir because it doesn’t help for us to start pumping the water while it is not going to the people,” she said.

She said she met with local councillors with a view to resolve the problem of water shortage in the area.

She said the City understands that the problem has been going on for too long and pleaded with the community to give the municipality a few days to address it.

“We have dispatched water tankers to affected areas and we will continue to give you updates on progress,” she said.

Residents were urged to use sparingly and not use it for irrigation purposes or washing cars.

Meanwhile, the City has warned residents in Mamelodi about a possible water supply interruption today due to a planned maintenance work at R4 Reservoir Zone scheduled for eight hours from 8am until 4pm.
