Students participating in the South African Institute of Auctioneers' one-year Further Education and Training Certificate: Auctioneering Support Services qualification will be placed in auction houses to gain practical experience.
“This is where SAIA members can play an important role to give much needed on-thejob-training. “At the same time, the students will be fulfilling a real function within a company, so it is a win-win situation for all involved,” says SAIA education head Charles Rwizi.
He says the sector education and training authority (Seta) is planning to make funds available to pay for the learnerships.
“This means companies can place a learner and pay a stipend or just top up the stipend paid by the Seta. The work-based learning programme, which will involve classroom studies at a college or training provider combined with practical experience, is a tripartite agreement between the learner, workplace and training provider.
“We see this as a major part of the SAIA Transformation Charter and strategy to place young, black people in the profession, giving them the opportunity to complete the training and workplace experience, and where possible, then employing them,” says Rwizi.
