This means that for the next year all contractors in Cape Town must, by law, pay their workers the rates and benefits as laid out in the agreement.
The effect is that all contractors will now be tendering off the same base. I appeal to all “givers of work” to ensure your contractors are registered and compliant with the Building Industry Bargaining Council, as not only can the contractor be heavily fined, but so can the client.
With a fair agreement the building industry in the Western Cape will remain stable with very little fear of strike action.
