“It is estimated 70% of our rental properties are fitted with prepaid electricity meters,” says Greeff’s Mark Burt.
“Prepaid water meters are not as common yet, but considering water restrictions, they might be encouraged more as water-saving efforts continue.”
Although the City of Cape Town does not have a prepaid meter system for water, Xanthea Limberg, mayoral committee member for water and waste, says the by-laws do allow body corporates and managing agents to install privately managed prepaid systems in sectional title schemes.
“And we are aware that this is becoming increasingly common.”
