Industry friends and fans have united in sending their well wishes to South African rapper Big Zulu, real name Siyabonga Nene, following news of a car accident on Sunday evening.
The incident has drawn widespread attention, with a series of images surfacing on social media showing the rapper’s damaged vehicle and him receiving medical care in a hospital.
Inkabi Records, the label representing Big Zulu, confirmed the unfortunate news, stating, “We have learnt of the unfortunate car accident involving SA rapper and uShuni Womhlaba judge, Big Zulu, which took place on Sunday evening. We are relieved to share that Big Zulu sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving medical attention in the hospital. As a valued member of the Shuni Womhlaba family and an inspiration to many, we extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Big Zulu during this traumatic time. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on his feet, continuing to share his incredible talent with the nation.”
More support poured in from the public, with prominent figures such as Mbuyiseni Ndlozi expressing their well wishes on social media, saying, “Get well soon, Big Zulu.”
This outpouring of love comes shortly after the rapper basked in the success of his new single, “Amacala Othando,” featuring acclaimed vocalist Azana, which recently celebrated over 400,000 views just two days after its release.
The new song explores the struggles within a relationship, detailing a man’s dedication to his partner, despite feeling unappreciated.
Azana, reflecting on their collaboration, stated, “This song talks about a broken marriage where the man does everything for the woman but feels unappreciated. It’s an argumentative dialogue between the lovers expressing their concerns. At the end of this heated argument, they agree never to grow apart despite their challenges. It was an amazing experience working with Big Zulu, whom I see as a living legend. This collaboration is an answered prayer.”
Big Zulu himself echoed Azana’s sentiments, highlighting the unexpected magic that blossomed during the creative process. “This song came unexpectedly as we were just jamming and having fun in the studio. Little did we know something magical would come out of it. Collaborating with the phenomenal, young, talented songwriter and versatile songstress Makhosazana (Azana) was exceptional. I can’t wait for everyone to experience the story Makho and I are telling in this song.”
