PICS: The curse of the green pools in Rio

London - After the diving pool in Rio turned green on Tuesday, it appeared the water polo one was following suit on Wednesday night.

Olympic chiefs admitted on Wednesday that the diving pool was affected by algae, but it appeared they had done nothing to fix the issue, as it remained a murky colour.

A picture appeared to show the water polo pool - which will also host synchronised swimming - beginning to change colour.

During the men’s synchronised 3m springboard diving on Wednesday night, viewers wrote on social media that the water looked like a dirty pond.

BBC commentators covering the 10m platform diving told them, ‘do not adjust your sets’, and British bronze medallist Tom Daley posted a picture of the pools on Twitter, writing: ‘Ermm… what happened?’

As the aquatic centre is open to the elements, the water is exposed to sunlight, which can break down chlorine-based disinfectants.
