It’s almost time for Spotify’s annual viral campaign to take over our social media timelines as listeners around the world share and discuss their listening habits.
This includes the various artists whose discographies dominated their music listening sessions this past year.
Spotify Wrapped was first launched in 2016 and has gained immense popularity over the years, prompting users to wait in anticipation each year around this time as it doesn’t have a formal release date.
Because of its global popularity, many companies have seized the opportunity to mimic the concept and create similar year-in-review experiences, offering users a recap of their habits, preferences, or interactions from the past year.
Let’s have a look at some of them.
Amazon Music
On Tuesday, Amazon Music announced the launch of its Spotify wrapped-like concept, called ‘Delivered’, which is a recap of your most memorable listening moments in 2024, including insights like your top artists, songs, and podcasts, hidden gems you've unearthed, and even the top request you've made with Alexa on Amazon Music.
The most exciting feature on Amazon’s Delivered is the exclusive, special message from one of your favorite artists of the year, which will be received by a select amazon music listeners with Alexa-enabled devices.
Apple Music
Spotify's rival, Apple Music, has Replay, which gives listeners a look back at their year in music by highlighting their top songs, artists, and albums they streamed.
This year’s Replay includes new additional highlights, including “listening streaks” that show users the longest consecutive number of days they’ve listened to music on the streaming service.
Furthermore, it will tell you the date when you first listened to your top song, artist, and album of the year.
Deezer
Deezer, another popular music streaming app, offers a feature called “My Deezer Year,” which provides a summary of your music consumption over the year, including top songs, genres, most-listened-to albums, and favorite artists.
Notably, two aspects that make it stand out are that it gives you the option to be “roasted” or “hyped-up” based on your music preferences, and it includes a quiz that tests how well friends and family know your music taste.
YouTube Music
YouTube Music’s Recap feature offers a personalized and interactive experience, giving you the top five artists, songs, moods, genres, albums, and playlists. It also shows your longest listening streak and the total number of minutes you listened to music on the platform in a year.
Duolingo
Outside of music streaming platforms, we have Duolingo. The popular language learning platform has a “Year in Review” feature, which is a 10-page summary that reveals all types of learner insights, such as total experience points (XP) earned for completing activities, longest learning streak, and where you rank compared to other Duolingo users.
Netflix Wrapped
A video-editing company called Kapwing has developed an unofficial “Netflix wrapped” tool that uses Netflix subscribers’ viewing data to provide statistics on insights such as your total time spent on Netflix, your “most bingeful day” and the most critically acclaimed movie you watched this year.
To use the tool, you go onto the Kapwing site, and import your Netflix viewing history which can be downloaded from your Netflix account. According to Kapwing, your data is “not collected or stored, and is only used locally to create your wrapped report”.
