A collaborative police operation in Chatsworth led to the arrest of a 50-year-old man for drug dealing, with authorities seizing cocaine valued at R27 200.
On Monday, a joint operation was conducted by the Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation, KwaZulu-Natal Counter Narcotics, Durban Metro Police Drug Team, and the Provincial Infrastructure Police Task Team.
Acting on reliable intelligence about the suspect, from Silverstream Road, the police teams conducted a disruptive operation and proceeded to the location.
"During the operation, a police agent was utilised to purchase one loop of cocaine powder from the drug den, which was used as evidence of illegal drug dealing," said Warrant Officer Sibu Ncane, the spokesperson for the Hawks.
"The drug den was subsequently raided and the suspect was arrested then charged with dealing in drugs. A search of the suspect revealed an additional 42 loops of cocaine powder, estimated to have a street value of R27 200."
The suspect is expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court today.
Major General (Dr) Lesetja Senona, the KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of collaboration and information sharing among law enforcement agencies.
