A 51-year-old man who was arrested and charged for allegedly dealing in drugs and illegal possession of a firearm, made his first appearance in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a provincial police spokesperson, said the man, who is employed by the eThekwini Municipality, was arrested yesterday by members of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit at a residence on the Bluff.
He said a search warrant was executed and police recovered drugs, including rock cocaine, cocaine powder, and mandrax, as well as about R20 000.
“The firearm, which was found in his possession, was reported stolen during an armed robbery in Wentworth in June last year,” said Netshiunda.
The man, who was remanded in custody, is expected to appear back in court for a formal bail bid next week.
