Bloemfontein - Two men were arrested on Thursday after allegedly robbing a cash-in-transit vehicle at a filling station in Zastron Street, Bloemfontein, Free State police said.

The men arrived at the filling station's shop pretending to be customers, said Captain Chaka Marope.

“One suspect held the security guard at gunpoint when he was coming out from the shop to remove cash boxes from the drop off safe,” he said.

“The other suspect was keeping a vigilant eye at the security vehicle.”

Marope said the men, between the ages of 26 and 28, fled the scene in a car, carrying an empty cash container.

The men were arrested minutes later, after they were chased by members of the Bloemfontein organised crime unit.

“Police discovered the get-away car was reported stolen two weeks ago in Navilsig,” he said.

The men were charged with business robbery, attempted murder and possession of a stolen vehicle.

They were expected to appear soon in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court.
