Bloemfontein - Two Chinese men have been caught near Bloemfontein in possession of seven bags of perlemoen, police said on Monday.

They were arrested at a police checkpoint on the M10 between Bloemfontein and Dewetsdorp on Sunday, Captain Chaka Marope said.

Seven plastic bags containing a large amount of perlemoen (abalone) with an estimated street value of R90 000 were found in the boot of their car.

The men, aged 26 and 27, were from Cape Town en route to Lesotho. They would appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday facing charges of unlawful possession of abalone. - Sapa
