Wekom - A man was jailed for six years by the Welkom Dedicated Court for Sexual Offences on Friday for sexual offences involving his son and nephew, Free State police said.
The 42-year-old committed the offences between 2008 and 2013 in Welkom and Hennenman, said Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana.
He forced his seven-year-old son and six-year-old nephew to watch him masturbate and ordered them to touch him, said Khosana.
On another occasion, he made his son play with his private parts while bathing with him.
“The accused called the child to his room and showed him a DVD containing scenes of adults engaging in sexual intercourse,” said Khosana.
The court heard that he was also in possession of child pornography.
The man was arrested and released on bail in November 2012, after which he lived at his brother's house.
However, while there he sexually assaulted his nephew by rubbing his private parts and asking for a “hand-job”, said Khosana.
Free State police commissioner Lt-Gen Simon Mpembe said the police and the courts were serious about sexual offences, especially against children.
“This sentence will also send a clear message to our communities that sexual offences are not only limited to strangers,” he said.
