Fire razes Free State school

A fire has caused damage estimated at R500 000 to a school in Thabong, Free State police said on Friday.

The fire at Lenakeng Comprehensive School was reported to police at 6.20pm on Thursday, said Sergeant Tlalanyane Pakela.

Emergency services put out the fire, but could not stop it from causing extensive damage to the building.

“The roof had collapsed and the furniture was also damaged. The most affected areas were the staff room, the workshop, and the store room.”

The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear.

Police were investigating a case of arson, but no one had been arrested. – Sapa
