Welkom - Free State ANC members continued in closed session with the rerun of their elective conference at the Phakisa Raceway in Welkom on Sunday.

The conference re-elected the party's top five leadership posts unopposed on Saturday night.

The 30 additional members of the party's provincial executive committee (PEC) were also nominated unopposed and elected. No position went to a vote.

Former African National Congress provincial chairman Ace Magashule was re-elected to the position without any objections.

The other top five leaders in the ANC in the Free State are deputy-chairman Thabo Manyoni, provincial secretary William Bulwana, deputy-secretary Mamiki Qabathe and provincial treasurer Msebenzi Zwane.

The party in the Free State was re-running its 2012 elective conference after it was held to be illegal.

A group of six local ANC members successfully challenged the legality of the previous Free State leadership after the last conference.

The group succeeded in getting the Constitutional Court to declare the provincial executive committee's (PEC) decisions and resolutions unlawful and invalid, because the ANC had not addressed certain irregularities about the conference.

As a result, the then PEC was dissolved.

The party's national leadership appointed a provincial task team (PTT) to rerun the election.

A report by the PTT was discussed behind closed doors in conference on Saturday.

The conference credentials were also discussed in a closed session. Delegates went into various commissions Late on Saturday night.

The conference was receiving feedback from the commissions in a closed session on Sunday morning. - Sapa
