Bloemfontein - Water from the Lesotho Highlands Water Scheme will be released on Thursday to help the Setsoto local municipality with its water supply to communities.

Kido Thoabala, the spokesperson for the Free State department of water affairs, said the department made the decision to try to address the water problems in the Ficksburg-based municipality.

The water release would be from Clarens into the Caledon River.

Thoabala said farmers along the river should be aware that there would be more water flowing in the river.

“Farmers should please take note that the water is not for irrigation purposes, but for human consumption,” she said.

The water release would be at 10am on Thursday. - Sapa
