Bloemfontein -

A Free State woman survived a 50-metre fall from a balcony at the weekend, paramedics said on Monday.

“She fell from the balcony of a flat where she and some friends were relaxing,” ER24 spokesman Christo Venter said in a statement.

The incident happened in Kroonstad on Sunday afternoon.

“ER24 paramedics were dispatched to the scene and found that the woman had come to land on a concrete section behind the block of flats, and that she had fallen approximately 50 metres.

“Paramedics had to gain access to the woman by climbing over a locked gate and fence. The fire department later arrived and managed to open the gate to be able to remove the patient.”

Venter said that regardless of the potential for serious injury, she only sustained moderate injuries.

She was treated on the scene and then admitted to Boitumelo Hospital. - Sapa
