Welkom - Welkom police appealed to the public on Thursday for information that could lead to the arrests of four man wanted in connection with a hijacking and robbery.

“Police are pleading with the community to help with information so that the perpetrators can be brought to book,” Captain Stephen Thakeng said in a statement.

The robbery happened in February in Hennenman, near Welkom, in the Free State. The four hijacked a businessman and took his cellphone before fleeing.

Police chased the men, but they escaped after a shoot out.

Thakeng said the police had struggled to establish the men's whereabouts since the crime.

“So far, we don't have a lead on their whereabouts, which is why we are appealing to members of the public to assist us in finding the suspects,” he said.

Those with information were urged to contact the Welkom police.
