The trial of a 51-year-old man accused of murdering his wife and son in their Johannesburg home was postponed in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Monday, police said.

“It was postponed till June 8 for a formal bail application,” Captain Katlego Mogale said.

Ben Engelbrecht stands accused of strangling his wife Ina, 49, and his wheelchair-bound son, Kobus, 22, in their beds in Linden.

He apparently contacted his brother following their deaths. The brother arrived to find him in his car in the garage. A pool hose was attached to the vehicle's exhaust pipe and the engine was running.

The brother pulled him out of the car. Paramedics later declared him medically fit. -
