A man killed by a lion on a Free State farm has been identified as Senzo Mkhize, 23, from Underberg in Kwazulu-Natal, police said on Wednesday.
Mkhize was killed by a three-year-old male lion at the farm Leeubank near Villiers on Monday night.
The lion apparently climbed over the three-metre high gate of its enclosure before it attacked Mkhize.
Mkhize had gone to fetch water from a outside tap when the incident happened.
Police spokesman Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said the lion pulled his victim a few metres over the ground and in the process his neck was broken.
Mkhize was one of a group of contractors cutting grass on the farm to make fodder.
Mophiring said the incident was being investigated. – Sapa
