A man suspected of being an illegal miner was found dead at Unisel mine in Virginia, Free State police said on Sunday.
“According to the reports, the security personnel of the mine were called by illegal miners reporting that there is a dead body underground,” said Warrant Officer Malebo Khosana.
He said the security elevated the body to the surface with a cage.
On closer inspection it was discovered that unknown man sustained serious injuries on the head.
The body was found on Saturday.
“The deceased is an illegal Lesotho immigrant with an unknown identity,” he said. - Sapa
