A Harrismith man was questioned by police on Tuesday about an incident on a farm during which a woman was wounded with a shotgun.

Police spokesman Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said police arrested eight people in Intabazwe while investigating housebreaking and robbery charges.

Information led police to a shack where eight people were found with a shotgun, an air rifle and suspected stolen household appliances worth more than R5 000.

Mophiring said it was found that some of the stolen goods where linked to a housebreaking investigation at a farm in the district during which a shotgun was stolen last month.

Police said a 21-year-old man would be questioned about the attack at the farm Alfa in the Harrismith area.

On September 2, the woman went to investigate why the dogs were barking. Somebody shot at her from outside the house with a shotgun.

Mophiring said the man was handed to the Organised Crime unit for further questioning.

All eight people arrested, including four women aged between 18 and 40 years, were expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on charges of housebreaking and theft. - Sapa
