A man was killed and three others were critically injured on Friday morning when their car overturned near Harrismith in the Free State, paramedics said.

The car rolled repeatedly on the N3 freeway and flung the man out before it rested in the nearby veld, Netcare 911 spokesman Jeffrey Wicks said.

He was declared dead on the scene.

“Paramedics had to cut through the wreckage in order to free three other men who were trapped inside.”

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, but it appeared the driver lost control of the vehicle, Wicks said.

The injured were taken to Harrismith Provincial Hospital. - Sapa
