Ficksburg - A hitchhiker with dagga strapped to his body was arrested in Ficksburg on Wednesday, Free State police said.

A motorist had offered the hitchhiker a ride to Johannesburg, said Captain Phumelelo Dlamini.

“As the hitchhiker entered the vehicle, the driver noticed a stench of dagga.”

He said motorist told the police the man's upper body appeared to be too big, and he pulled over when he saw police on patrol in the Ficksburg CBD.

“Police searched the man and allegedly found a black plastic wrapped around his upper body containing dagga,” said Dlamini.

The dagga had a street value of about R15 000.

Dlamini said police suspected the dagga was being taken from Lesotho to Rustenburg.
